Video Club To Curb Disorder
(UK) Police, the community and a local business in Wearside, Sunderland have developed a video club to try and get the local young people off the streets.
A DVD player and large screen will be set up at Hetton Centre, Welfare Road, with DVDs supplied by local video store to combat the 'Friday-night' issues of anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related incidents.
Community beat manager PC Joe Dow said: 'Youths in Hetton didn't just need the authorities to move them on. A longer term solution was needed to divert their attention. By combining resources with other agencies we have put together what we hope is an enjoyable alternative.'
A simple project focused locally which will undoubtedly achieve results. Phatgnat hopes the project can be expanded, with possible film making workshops by local colleges so that the young people can get the opportunity to make their own films. There is a lot of possibility in this project…
