Young Londoners Set To Elect Olympics Youth Committee
(UK) Young people in London will be able to elect their peers to an Olympics youth committee, under plans drawn up by the London 2012 Forum.
The forum, which is in charge of community involvement in the 2012 Olympic Games, plans to get a young person elected in each of the capital's 32 boroughs. The young people will help shape a programme of events in the run-up to the games and ensure young people's voices are heard on issues such as transport and regeneration.
As previously discussed, the London bid was won by focussing on young people and how the Olympics would motivate and enthuse them into action—it's great to see young people will have such a high-profile impact on the games, however, from experience, time will tell if this committee will have 'powers' or will just become another 'tick-box' exercise.
