Government Helps With The Gaps
(UK) The government has launched its new online advice site for gap year students. Recent Foreign Office research shows that a third of 16 to 30 year olds have been on a gap year or plan to take one—that's a huge number of young people!
The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Foreign Office intends the site to offer advice on a wide-range of travelling issues from passports to visas, insurance and local customs.
Throughout the site there is only brief mention of travel companies that provide specific gap-year holidays and no mention of voluntary agencies or charities that provide further opportunities for young people who would like to work on environmental and worthy projects while they travel.
Phatgnat is currently working with a global environmental charity who is seeking to broaden its current schemes and create opportunities for young people to become involved in research placements throughout the world.
