Spaces for Sport
(UK) Barclays 'Spaces for Sport' totals 30million (GBP) over three years and is the single biggest investment in grass roots sport ever by a company in the UK.
The scheme focuses on 'regeneration and sports, creating sustainable sports sites for people to engage in sport and physical activities in areas without such facilities.' Partnering with the Football Association and Grounwork the scheme hopes to create over 300 new spaces for sport across the UK.
The flagship site was announced in Liverpool last week by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP.
Obviously, football features heavily in the scheme but we're glad to see other sports and also several skateparks (and surprisingly a bowling green).
