Profitting from Obesity
(Germany) Neckermann, a German clothing firm, has launched it's catalogue range of clothes for plus-size kids—story here.
Neckermann hopes 'its new line will help overweight kids who feel like outsiders or are teased by their peers to fit in better, at least when it comes to fashion.'
The clothes are sold at the same price as their 'normal' range.
Obviously, a very lucrative and shrewd business oportunity but one that is morally questionable. Yes, the need and market exists but the company should be investing in youth-focused educational and sport programmes to coincide with this move and turn a potentially negative market component into a postive one.
Then again we can't speak German so maybe they already do: Neckermann website.
