Diageo Does Good
(UK) In recent correspondence with Diageo, the global drink company managing brands such as Smirnoff, Guiness and Baileys etc. (they are interested in being featured on 'The Phatgnat Monthly Spotlight')—Phatgnat was made aware of their current Corporate Citizen programme.
The company is involved a vast amount of projects and initiatives seen here on it's UK Project description index, but here are a few of the highlights:
Working with Tacade (a charity committed to young people's health) to deliver an alcohol peer education programme in secondary schools across Barnsley, Portsmouth, Manchester, Salford and West Sussex;
Funding CragRats, a theatre education organisation, to deliver a free interactive alcohol education programme to 23,000 pupils across the UK;
Through The Portman Group, funding educational information for parents and carers on talking to children and young people about alcohol;
Funding the production of video materials to support the Strengthening Families Programme 10-14, an alcohol education pilot sponsored by the Alcohol Education Research Council and the Home Office Drug Strategy Directorate, based on a successful programme from the US.
This illustrates how much good work is being supported and initiated by brands and companies. Phatgnat feels this highlights the issue of how hard it is for brands and companies to promote and disseminate their positive involvement in community projects and schemes.
However, Diageo is one of the few companies who takes the time (and space) to outline their Corporate Social Responsibility programme.
