Toshiba Technology Grants
(USA) Toshiba America Foundation makes grants (maximum $5,000) for projects in math and science designed by classroom teachers to improve instruction for students in grades K-12.
Their website features past awards, including Partnership on the Pacific and Coney Island Classroom, which were initiated by non-profit organizations interested in helping schools to improve science and math instruction.
Toshiba also works with the National Science Teachers Association to co-sponsor one of the world's largest science competition for K-12 students—'Exploravision'. The company invests more than $1 million annually in the program.
First prize last year was L.I.F.E.: Living Impaired Future Eye—please take the time to check out the website, very impressive! It allows visually impaired people to lead more independent lives. The hands-free unit uses an infrared motion system and ultrasound to detect and communicate movement to the user, allowing blind people to walk without a cane.
