Selling Volunteering
(US/UK) Boost Mobile is a telecommunications brand from Nextel communications whose brand is aimed solely at youth. They say 'Since 2002, Boost Mobile's quality products and unique branding efforts, which fuse youth aspiring sports, music, fashion and entertainment, have enabled American youth to boost their lifestyle, build stronger connections and achieve greater independence.'
Phatgnat posted about their volunteering promotions here: Volunteer And Get Concert Tickets
On this side of the pond, 2005 is the Year of the Volunteer in the UK and young people are at the centre of the strategy to get people to contribute 1 billion minutes to their community this year. Already three million young people volunteer each year; 41% of young people are involved in formal volunteering, and 67% in some sort of informal volunteering.
Maybe there was a missed opportunity for a high-profile corporate sponsorship on this occasion?
