Scholarships For Trendspotters
(US) Six college education scholarships have been given by The Intelligence Group (a trend-forecasting and marketing consultancy) in conjunction with the CAA Foundation.
Their simple motivation was to 'give back to the community that has inspired us and taught us about the lives of young people'. The scholarships were open to their panel of 'trendsetters' and here's excerpts from two of the successul young people to received a scholarship:
'It's hard to know where truth comes from anymore. I come home to the dinner table with a litany of questions. What's the fastest growing religion in America? When was Grover Cleveland president? How many pounds are ina ton? I investigate, crosscheck, interrogate, doubt. I am determined to find the right answer. I return to school weeks later with a conclusion to the argument. 'I was right,' I say. 'It was viral.' I dream of finding out for myself. I dream of a personal connection with information. I dream of truth.'
Michelle, 18, New York'My dreams are simple. I want to succeed in life by completing college first. The next dream is to be accepted to medical school and become a doctor. It has always been my mother's dream that one of her boys become a doctor, so in a sense, I am not only fulfilling my dream, but my mother's as well. In all, my dream is to be successful in life by completing school, proving to my mother that all of her hard work was not overlooked, be happy, and take care of my mother just as she took care of me and my brother.'
