Picking The Right/Wrong Partners
(UK) There has been a huge debate about the UK governments school reforms in the past couple of months since the release of the white paper on education. One of the 'sticking' points for many MPs opposed to the changes is the aim to involve more external partners in setting up and running schools—these include faith groups, charitable/community organisations and businesses.
Today Tony Blair is holding a nice 'tea and biscuit' session with these interested groups at number 10. Among those who have apparently been invited is Microsoft. Obviously, there is a swell of opposition to any corporate involvement due to the perception that the new partners might impact on the teaching and subjects of the school, however, surely this is a simple case of managing expectations on both sides.
What I would like to explore is where is the young peoples involvement in all this? They are the most important stakholders in these reforms and plans but I don't see them involved in the decision process. And why aren't these new invited partners being drawn from the most popular brands today?
