This I Believe…
Inspired by Christian's recent post Putting Your Philosophical Poker Cards on the Table this is me, communicating what I believe.
(NB: If you haven't checked out Christian's 'think:lab' blog yet please please please do—the depth and breadth of his writing is fantastically inspiring. And just to illustrate the point:)
Our children and students are prepared to face something that very few of us have the skills or instincts for. Let's stop trying to prepare them for the past. And let's follow them into the future for a change…
So here's my contribution to the 'This I Believe' debate:
1. Young people are not the future—they are the active citizens of today if we allow/enable them to be;
2. Information is no longer power—creativity rules. Anyone can find the answer but knowing how to apply and imagine beyond it, is what distinguishes;
3. Remember who put you there and why—politicians, CEO's, headteachers, elected officials, professors etc. We all have responsibilities to the wider community and also a responsibility to be as great as we can;
4. Anyone can work with young people—there is no trick or slight-of-hand to learn. Just leave your stereotypes at the door, be ready to be challenged and never forget to talk to them as individuals (not as kids);
5. Giving is great. Involvement is better. Partnerships are the best (in all aspects of life);
Would love to hear what you believe…
