Life Swap
(UK) Life Swap is sponsored by O2 and uses camera-phones to enable young people to offer insights into their lives.
I received an email from Shane McCracken, director of Gallomanor Communications who runs the LifeSwap events:
The personal nature of mobile phone cameras means that people take them into situations where they wouldn't take another person, a camcorder or even a camera. Meetings, train platforms, friends houses, the bathroom – anywhere they happen to be at the moment they receive the text message reminding them to take their hourly photo.
The immediacy of it inhibits inward reflection and censorship. Participants are hurried to take their picture, caption it, and send it to the site. We see the boredom, the personal, the intimate, and the confidential. It goes where surveys, shadowing and video diaries cannot. The result is a rawer and more accurate view of their lives.
