What's In A Name?
DK is my name. Very few of you have ever questioned it but I have had experiences of people enquiring and seeking clarification which is cool. Happy to answer.
DK is what I am known by professionally and personally. It is not an alias.
On my birth certificate it says 'Darren Kendall'. I have always hated 'Darren' with a passion and during my school years most people called me 'Kendall'. When I was in University it was 'Taff' (a generic nickname for people from the South Wales valleys—like 'Paddy' for the Irish).
About 5 years ago someone called me DK and it stuck. I prefer it—my very old friends still call me Kendall, Uni mates it's Taff and my family Darren.
I write this post because recently I got accused of hiding behind DK, of not being transparent and failing to disclose who I really am and what I do (although as you can see from this site it's all laid bare plus there are simple avenues to ask). It's not the first time other people have had issues with my name. I have had lengthy discussions with print media about it as their rules permit them to print just initials (?).
I have plans to legally change my name soon—a decision I feel is deeply personal and with a main motive to shake off 'Darren'.
