UK School Olympics
(UK) Announced today is the governments plans for an annual UK School Games to promote competition and unearth British talent for the forthcoming 2012 Olympics.
With £6million already being pledged to help fund the bold plan it will be the biggest school event to be staged in the UK. It is also sponsored by Visa Europe and supported by the Youth Sport Trust, a charity which supports young people through sport.
Sports minister Richard Caborn said:
These Games will become the pinnacle of the school sport competitive calendar. This sporting event will build on the Government's plans for putting competitive sport back into schools, so that kids across the country, regardless of background, have the chance to go for gold on their own school sport stage.
